Patient Charter

Patient's Rights and Responsibilities

As a patient you have the right to:

a) Be registered with a named doctor
b) Change doctor if desired (but please remember that you may have to see any of the doctors if your need is urgent)
c) Receive emergency care
d) Receive appropriate drugs and medicines
e) Be referred for specialist or second opinion if they and GP agrees
f) See your medical records or a copy, subject to certain laws
g) Know that by law, everyone working for the NHS must keep the contents of your medical records private.

With these rights come responsibilities for the public. That means being:

a) Courteous to staff at all times
b) As prompt as possible for all appointments
c) Responsible for cancelling appointments in adequate time.

You can help us by:

  • Coming to the appointment on time but not too early.
  • Letting us know in good time if you are unable to keep your appointment.
  • Respecting others rights by being courteous to all staff.
  • Respecting the Practice – by switching your mobile phone off before entering the building.
  • Cooperating in your medical care by keeping to the agreed treatment plan.
  • Letting us know when you change your name and / or home address.
  • Only requesting a home visit when it is really necessary for medical reasons – when a patient is too ill or immobile to get to surgery. Please give sufficient details of the problem so that we can give priority to the most urgent cases.
  • Only requesting a home visit before 10:00am so that we can plan our day efficiently. Emergencies are seen whenever they occur, but otherwise, visits requested after 10.00am are left until the next day.
  • Using the out of hour’s service responsibly, remembering that it is for genuine emergencies only. It is not for social convenience.
  • Observing the no smoking policy.

NHS Zero Tolerance to Violence & Aggression

The Tettenhall Medical Practice observes the policy of the CCG and does not tolerate physical or verbal abuse offered towards any member of the practice team or other patients.

Instances of violent or threatening behaviour will result in removal of the patient involved from the list and the incident will be reported to the police.
